The Commander, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Major General Mobolaji Adeleke Koleoso, has enjoined young officers to uphold the spirit of merit, competence and discipline, describing them as key to the success of their career. General Koleoso made the assertion recently at Letmauk Cantonment, Mokola, Ibadan, Oyo State, during Lieutenant to Captain Practical Promotion Examination.

The Commander, who was the Examination President, warned the candidates to avoid any form of examination malpractices, such as use of mobile phones at the venue, as well as fraternization with members of the Panel and Directing Staff. He reiterated that members of the Panel and Directing Staff are officers of proven integrity selected from various corps who would not lend themselves to any form of malpractice.
He disclosed that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, in his determined effort to ensure the successful conduct of the exercise, has approved all the requirements, urging the candidates to play their part and ensure that the cadre of junior commanders in the Nigerian Army is of excellent quality.

In his remarks, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Laz Ilo, said that the choice of the Division for the examination was very apt, because apart from its unique location, it has the necessary facilities to ensure successful conduct of the exercise.
He advised the candidates to read wide, approach the examination with seriousness, commitment and avoid any fraudulent act as it would attract serious sanction. He stressed that the exercise would mark the beginning of their career progression.
The practical promotion examination tested 142 candidates drawn from the 60 and 61 Regular Courses, as well as Short Service Course 40.
Highlight of the exercise include theoretical and practical tests on skill at Arms, Tactics, Map Reading, Driving and Maintenance, Administration in the field, French and Signal Communication.
