The National President, Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) Mrs Salamatu Faruk Yahaya on 5 July 2021 led a delegation of members of NAOWA on Humanitarian outreach programme to commemorate Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2021.
The programme was conducted in Wassa Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp and Abuja Children’s Home, Karu Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Donating the relief items at Wassa IDP Camp, the National President said the gesture was part of NAOWA activities to commemorate NADCEL 2021 and to identify with the IDPs with the believe that every Nigerian deserves basic necessities of life.
She said that NAOWA has always strived to reach out to the most vulnerable people so as to help them meet their basic needs. She however called on all Nigerians to lend a helping hand in alleviating the suffering of the IDPs.
Mrs Yahaya further stated that NAOWA is a nongovernmental and non profit association with the objective of helping the less privileged in the society. The President expressed delight at the various humanitarian programmes being conducted by NAOWA across the nation especially visitations to orphanage homes, IDPs Camp, establishment of skills acquisition centre, Schools and business centres among others.
She encouraged parents to educate their children and adviced youths to engage in meaningful activities to better themselves and for development of the community.
Appreciating the gesture, the Chairman FCT IDPs, Alh. Ibrahim Adamu expressed delight at NAOWA’s humanitarian gestures which he described as timely. He congratulated the National President NAOWA for the appointment of her husband as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and saluted the courage of the security agencies who have risked their lives for peace in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa State and urged Nigerians to support the NA to achieve success especially in the fight against insurgents. He noted that the camp occupied IDPs from Borno, Yobe and Adamawa State, adding that the items donated will go a long way in alleviating the suffering being faced in Wassa Community. Items donated by NAOWA include; food items, clothing materials, large quantity of grains, bags of rice, millets, sugar and generator sets for powering of boreholes.
The President NAOWA also used the opportunity to inspect medical equipment in Wassa Mobile Clinic and educational facilities donated by NAOWA at Wassa Primary School.
In related development, National President and NAOWA members also visited Abuja Children’s Home in Karu FCT where large items of food stuffs, educational materials, clothing, medical consumables amongst others were donated to the orphanage.
Donating the items, Mrs Salamatu Yahaya stated that the donation was a necessary way of showing concerns to orphans whom as a result of circumstances found themselves in the current situation. He urged the children to be hopeful adding that NAOWA will continue to support the less privileged and provide conducive environment where they can fulfill their potentials. The National President appreciated the COAS for his support to the Association and personnel of the NA for their cooperation.
Earlier in her remarks, the Vice Chairperson Abuja Children’s Home, Hajia Amina Abubakar thanked NAOWA for their concern about the orphanage, adding that the orphanage home has been receiving donations from different organizations within the FCT and its environs.
Items donated at the orphanage home include matrasses, daip, writing materials, diapers, toiletries, clothing materials, wheel chairs and medical consumables. The President NAOWA during the visit also commissioned remodeled hostels and visitors room.
